Even though the girls came in 3rd. At No. 3, they will likely hit the road Friday to take on the Centennial team ranked No. 2. After the girls’ game, the boys took on the 9th ranked Righetti team. The Bearcats finished the season with an 11-4 final score and finished in second place in the Ocean League, placing them eighth for the Division 2 playoffs. Eighth place in the Division 2 playoffs. It was clear from the start that Righetti’s Warriors had no answer for the Bearcats’ offense, led by Devin Perez and Darius Thompson, who scored 50 points, just five away from Righetti’s team-high 25. Perez added seven assists and Thompson had seven rebounds. Paso Robles will need to keep playing offensively as they face No. 1 on Friday when they travel to Centennial. The Lady Bearcats were joined early in the game by the boys of Atascadero Greyhounds, who were also preparing for Homecoming on Thursday night. The Hounds qualified for the playoffs with an overall record of 12-4, became Ocean League champions and earned the fourth playoff spot in Division 2. AHS hosted Selma in the first round and played solid defense, as they have all season, allowing just 40 points to their opponents. Jaden Fisher and Mitchell Carpenter were active with their hands, throwing four interceptions each. Drew Arduin carried the entire load on offense, scoring 26 points and hitting five shots from beyond the arc. The Hounds’ next game is against Hanford, who are in 4th place in Division 2. The winner of this match will qualify for the semi-finals. Interestingly, if the Hounds and Bearcats win their games Friday night, the two teams will meet for the third time this season and have a chance to win the CIF title. Although all four teams won Wednesday night, the Eagles had the most exciting game and the only one that wasn’t decided until the last second. Templeton’s boys finished the season at 7-7 and in third place in the Ocean League, while Pioneer Valley and Paso Robles finished in second place. The Eagles were seeded #8 in the Division 4 playoffs and hosted South Bakersfield. Templeton took a 13-2 run to take the lead, but then settled down before Xander Shaw made a huge block that led to a three-pointer by Grant Vandehoff. Shaw finished as the top scorer with 16 points, but it was Vandehoff’s 10 points in the fourth quarter that secured the win for the Eagles. With four seconds left to play, Josh Kaiser was fouled on a point and made two crucial free throws to seal the victory. The South makes a final attempt, but finds nothing. Templeton will take on No. 1 on Friday. 1 Kingsburg. No. 1 in Kingsburg.
