Lucas Kempton (Glen Wallace) is miserably abandoned on Coronation Street when Carla Connor (Alison King) chooses Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) in his place, but he’s not giving up on love just yet, as he will return to earn it.
Carla was shocked last night (29 January) in the ITV soap when she came face to face with her former love Lucas.
The businessman came to Weatherfield to do business with Underworld, but it was clear that business wasn’t the only thing he had in mind.
I think it’s a great way to present yourself as a character, actor Glen Wallace told Metro.co.uk, and that for such a famous couple!
Carla and Lucas had a certain chemistry, and it soon became clear that they knew each other well.

There is a history, an established relationship between Lucas and Carla, Glen said. – Around the same time she married Nick and disappeared to Devon. Lucas is a businessman living in Devon and they met at a party.
I think Lucas would probably consider that a double flame. A soulmate is a person with whom he feels an immediate connection.
It had to be more than a moment [between them]. I think he sees a future with Carla.
The bond between the two was evident in the episode in question, when Lucas invited Carla to lunch at the bistro, where they reminisced about the past few days.
However, it soon became clear that Lucas had suffered a great tragedy, as Lucy’s friend – of whom Carla was aware – had died of a drug overdose.

There are parallels between Carla’s relationship with Peter and Lucas’ relationship with Lucy, the actor continues. He went through this relationship by being the caring partner and taking care of someone who was dependent on something.
Carla noticed the similarity herself, and it was ultimately this similarity that made her wonder if she should just turn Peter down and take Lucas’ offer to spend the night with him in the hotel room.
He speaks from experience, Glen adds. What he does is take Carla and talk: Look, I’ve been there. I know what it is. I can help you with that. I can see the signs. I don’t want you to do what I did.
But despite Lucas’ pleas, Carla turns down his offer and stays with Pierre. Their happiness may be short-lived, however, because – despite Carla’s choices – Lucas returns in the following scenes.

I think he’s giving her some space, mocks Glen. I think the blow to his ego is that he didn’t show up, but I think it gave him time to leave: No, wait a minute. I won’t let you do it.
I think Lucas has the ability to ask Carla questions about herself and her relationships that she may not have been asked before. He’s leaving: I’m a blank slate. I want it to work, and for it to work, we need to be open and honest with each other.
He doesn’t want to miss any more opportunities in life, and I think he sees Karl as an opportunity in life that he certainly won’t miss.
With Lucas returning in what appears to be a recurring role, could he become some kind of paving stone?
Glen, who played a major role in both Hollyoak and East Enders, thinks so!
I think the character has legs, he told us, but I also think the relationship between him and Carla has legs. I think it’s up to the producers and the writing team to see what works on screen and if they can make scripts out of it.
What about Peter?
Glen smiled: I think Lucas has a chance to be in Peter’s shoes!
