The Los Angeles Dodgers begin their title defense in Colorado when they take on the Rockies at Coors Field.
The Dodgers had a solid spring training, finishing with two wins and a 13-11 record.
The Rockies weren’t bad either, batting .500 and matching the Dodgers’ performance, closing out the warmup with a two-game winning streak.

From a personnel standpoint, there are few teams in the league that can match the mighty Dodgers team.
Los Angeles starts the season in good shape, which is bad news for any opponent. There is no real weakness in the Dodgers’ lineup.
From Mookie Betts to Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner to World Series hero Corey Seager, the top of the Dodgers’ lineup is a nightmare for opposing pitchers.
Seager was especially impressive before the season started. The shortstop was very active during spring training, hitting eight home runs and posting a .346 average in 22 games.
In a friendly park like Coors Field, it would be a shock if the champions didn’t send the balls in today. If they’re on five or six. When we get to the bullpen in the second inning, it turns into an ugly game.
As a pitcher, Clayton Kershaw takes the ball for his ninth start on opening day. The Dodgers’ ace was absolutely brilliant on the first day of the season, going 5-1 career scoring with a 1.05 ERA.
Kershaw had a very good season last year. With a 6-2 record and an ERA of just 2.16 in 10 games, he showed the world that he still has plenty of gas in the tank.
The left-hander should be ready to prove the naysayers wrong once again, but it’s unlikely the Dodgers will pressure him. The most likely outcome is that he pitched about six solid innings.
Why the Rockies can win this game.
The Rockies are clearly outclassed here, but it would be a mistake to write them off immediately.
Colorado will turn the ball over to Herman Marquez, who has a pretty solid record against the Dodgers.
In total, he faced the Dodgers 134 times and held them to a collective batting average of .234. The Rockies’ ace has allowed just five home runs against each player on the Dodgers’ current roster.
Marquez was especially brilliant against Seager and Bellinger. Seager is just 2-11 against Marquez, while Bellinger is just 3-24 ever against him.
It’s unlikely that Marquez can quench this strong team in the afternoon game at Coors Field, but it’s certainly plausible that he won’t go down right away and last five or six innings.
On the other side of the ball, the Rockies’ team faces a familiar foe.
Colorado has three players who have played against Kershaw more than 20 times, and they weren’t bad against him. Charlie Blackmon is hitting .286 against Kershaw in 63. In Pennsylvania, he hit four home runs against an ace. Trevor Storey hit an impressive .300 in 20 appearances at Kershaw.
The way to win tonight for Colorado is to hope that Marquez puts up six or seven good runs, and rely on his big hitters to knock in four or five runs. After that, the Colorado faithful have to hope the bullpen holds on for a few more innings.
Final Dodgers – Rock prediction and selection
Although Colorado could tweak Kershaw a bit at Coors Field, the Dodgers’ captain is still pretty strong in a pitcher-destroying park. Combine that with the fact that the Dodgers have a big advantage in offense and in the bullpen, and I give this win to the Dodgers. The World Series champion should make a statement, and even if Colorado gets Kershaw, the Dodgers should back up their bats.
