According to reports, Eagles coach Ken Flajole is leaving the team and retiring from the NFL.

You could say that the biggest weakness of the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2021 off-season is their linebacker position. It’s been a problem for almost ten years. Now it seems that someone else’s problem needs to be solved.

According to SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Alex Marvez, Eagles coach Ken Flajole should resign and not renew his contract. The 66-year-old coordinator has been in Philadelphia since 2016 and has four decades of experience as a football coach. He made the leap from college to the NFL in 1998 when he was a defensive assistant / quality control coach for the Green Bay Packers.

I don’t know if it exists, but I’ve heard that the @Eagles LBs coach Ken Flajole will be gone by 2021. He can retire (he is 66 years old). He coached at the university from 1979 to 1997 before going to the NFL. With the Eagles since 2016. Highly respected in league circles.

Flajole, as Marvez points out, is highly regarded in league circles and has helped the Eagles defend the top 10 in the running defense, defend the red zone, defend the third zone, score points on the defense and take points away from home during his tenure. This year he also received an award for his work in the development of Alex Singleton.

Alex Singleton has been number two in the NFL since he started fulltime in week 10:

2) Alex Singleton – 11.4%
3) Bobby Wagner – 10.9%
4) Roseanne Smith – 10.5%#Eagles pic.twitter.com/vpCjb7aoxg

Before Flajole came to Philadelphia, he held key positions with the Seattle Seahawks (defensive back/fullback coach), Carolina Panthers (fullback coach), St. John’s (fullback coach), and the St. Louis (fullback coach). Louis Rams (defensive coordinator), New Orleans Saints (defensive backseat) and Cleveland Browns (full backseat). He was part of the Eagles coaching staff that won the Super Bowl LII in 2017.

Determination to fight the BL Nate Gerry

One of the last memories Eagles fans have of Flachol may be that of linebacker Nate Jerry’s defense last November. To be honest, defense coordinator Jim Schwartz initiated Jerry’s love party and probably asked his coordinators to do the same.

It should also be noted that there is some truth in what the two men said. Jerry turned out to be the scapegoat for everything that went defensively wrong in 2020, largely because he seemed to be hit for multiple touchdowns. His confusion about Chase Claypool’s score in week 5 was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Was it his fault? Was he expecting help? Flajole was defended by Jerry, who landed on a wounded reservation.

I love Nate. Again, I know it has been criticized, but you won’t hear it from me, said Flajole, through Sports Illustrated. I really think this guy has been invaluable to us, even more than what’s been shown on the field. It is an achievement he has not noticed, but again, we coach understand his role and he has done well.

ESPN projects Retired experts State LB Eagles

The last time the Eagles recruited a defender was in 1979, when the UCLA team drafted Jerry Robinson with the 21st overall pick. This of course does not apply to Marcus Smith in 2014, who was technically a cornerstone of Steinmetz.

It was a bit of a shock when ESPN expert Todd McShay selected Penn State’s famous linebacker Micah Parsons for the Eagles in sixth place in his first simulated design. Parsons is a stallion and a worthy top 10 perspective, but Philadelphia does not appreciate this position. Maybe this year. Parsons refused to participate in the university’s 2020 season because of concerns about COVID-19. In 2019, 109 tackles (14 for loss), five bags and four forced hiccups were registered.
