BOSTON — The Los Angeles Dodgers were looking to end a nine-game losing streak in Boston. They had their chance to do that on Sunday, but with a little help from the bullpen, the San Francisco Giants won their fifth straight, thanks in part to a two-run homer in the ninth inning by Hunter Pence.

The San Francisco Giants have a new hero. In the 10th inning of their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco catcher Buster Posey faced Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen, who appeared to have the game won. But then Posey hit a go-ahead home run off Jansen. Posey’s teammates mobbed him at the plate, and the crowd cheered. After the game, he told reporters he had a message for the fans. “I just told them I love them, and I love the city,” he said. “I’m thankful to be here. “I just told them I love them. The Giants had just four hits until Flores’ home run, which silenced the sold-out Dodger Stadium crowd. Buster Posey led up the ninth inning with a pinch-hit single, and Flores followed with a two-run drive to left center to put San Francisco up 3-2.

Flores hit his 11th home run of the season. In save chances, Jansen (1-3) went 21 for 25.

With the bases loaded, Victor Gonzalez walked Curt Casali, bringing the score to 4-2.

Tyler Rogers got his 11th save by throwing a spotless ninth inning after taking the loss Tuesday after surrendering a game-ending home run to pinch-hitter Will Smith.

For the victory, Jose Alvarez (3-1) pitched a scoreless inning.

Dave Roberts, the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was dismissed in the ninth inning.

Julio Uras of Los Angeles threw a seven-inning masterpiece, giving just three hits. He walked one batter while striking out five.

Uras allowed Yastrzemski’s home run but otherwise kept the Giants at bay. He was attempting to become the first player in big league history to win 13 games.

In the first inning, Yastrzemski blasted his 16th home run of the season, and his second in as many days.

In the bottom of the first, Chris Taylor replied with a solo home run of his own. Taylor had three home runs in his past two games, and he’s having a great month. In 14 of the past 17 games, he has hit safely.

In five innings, Webb gave up two runs on three hits.
