The Opening Ceremony of the Rio Olympic Games started this morning with a stunning parade that included stunning floats, dancers and some rather large helicopters. The “Super Sonic” athletes who took part marched through the ranks of the police as they were accompanied by the Brazilian military band.
The opening ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics is now in full swing, and we’ve got you covered with all the news, photos and videos from the event so far.
Sochi Olympic Games got off to a spectacular start Tuesday with the opening ceremony, which included the lighting of the Olympic flame. The ceremony featured the Russian national anthem, a march of athletes, the lighting of the Olympic cauldron and the Olympic flag being raised over the stadium. In terms of attire, I’m impressed by how the nations cope with the reality that their delegations include both men and women. They seem to travel in one of many directions: 1. Both men and women wear suits, albeit maybe with different shoes. 2. In golf, males wear trousers while ladies wear unattractive skirt versions. 3. Everyone is dressed in the same ugly outfit. 4. Put on your native garb! And, of course, 5: There’s a beautiful man who doesn’t wear a shirt, so who cares what the rest of us are wearing?

Myanmar’s military launched a coup in February, and since then, hundreds of people have been murdered and others have been imprisoned. The coronavirus is spreading throughout the nation, and the military is denying those who resist the coup access to oxygen. Athletes from Myanmar boycotted the Tokyo Olympics, objecting to support a military regime that imprisoned the country’s elected leaders. Others, though, showed up. It’s difficult to fathom how difficult each athlete’s choice was.

Pita Taufatofua became an instant celebrity five years ago when he marched naked and in traditional Tongan garb during the 2016 Rio Olympics opening ceremony, and he did it again at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Taufatofua returned to Tokyo on Friday for his third Olympiad, where he will participate in taekwondo. Earlier in the day, Taufatofua expressed his surprise at the response to his traditional attire.
In a phone interview on Friday, he added, “It was truly a surprise to me.” “All of a sudden, within a day, social media use skyrocketed. Who is your boss? We’ve got to speak. I had no idea what such phrases meant.”
Taufatofua eventually accepted the attention. He is currently a UNICEF ambassador and a motivating speaker.
“To me, the Olympics aren’t even about the athletes,” he said. “I believe we are just a reflection of every single individual on the world who is attempting to overcome a challenge.”
Taufatofua, who began taekwondo as a kid, dismissed the idea that he is attempting to profit from his Olympic popularity. He was eliminated in the first round of the Rio Olympics, but observed that half of the judo competitors did the same. In addition, he had to face a top-ranked opponent.
He added, “It’s an honor to battle these people.” “I’m not trying to be the greatest in the world.” I came to be the finest version of myself.”
Taufatofua remained tight-lipped about his plans for the opening ceremony.
“All we can do now is wait and see what the Olympics bring,” he added. “You know, we’re in the greatest show in the planet right now.”
(He came in traditional garb, as he did in Rio.) He’ll be trending on the internet again in no time.)
