We have the first one-night stand in Miami. Amazon is releasing a film that is the first director of the Oscar-winning Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk, Watchmen). There is a clear hope that it will be a favorite for the pricing season, and it is easy to see why. It is based on an award-winning Camp Powers game of the same name. Icons like Malcolm X, Sam Cook, Jim Brown and Mohammed Ali meet here on a fateful night. According to the studio, it’s a fictional story, inspired by the historic night these four impressive characters spent together. As we can see, history and fiction are a mixture in this case.

In the trailer we see Cassius Clay (Eli Gorey), Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adire), Sam Cook (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Eldis Hodge) coming together to celebrate. Cassius has just become heavyweight world champion, and that’s more than enough for them to go to town. We get a small glimpse of the icon that does what it’s good at, whether it’s boxing, playing soccer, singing or stimulating cultural change. Despite being a fictional image of the night in question, it seems to be a real look at each of these legendary characters.

POWERFUL: Amazon claims that heavy video users do not have legally obtained content.

The cast also includes Joaquina Kalukango (chained for life), Nicolette Robinson (The Affair), The Fabulous Baker Boys and Lance Reddick. Kemp Powers wrote the script. The film is directed by Jess Woo Calder, Keith Calder and Jody Klein. Amazon secured worldwide rights to the film as early as July, which shows that they really believe in what Regina King was able to do behind the camera. Regina King’s been sitting in front of the screen for a couple of years. Since 2015, King has won four Emmy Awards and five nominations to her name to win the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Female Role in 2019. Today, it pushes the limits of what it can achieve.

On one of the incredible evenings of 1964, four icons of sport, music and activism came together in Miami to celebrate one of the greatest upheavals in the history of boxing. When loser Cassius Clay, soon to be known as Muhammad Ali (Eli Gori), heavyweight champion Sonny Liston defeated in the Miami conference room, Clay celebrated it with three of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adire), Sam Cook (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Eldis Hodge). The film is about the struggles of these people and the crucial role they played in the civil rights movement and the cultural upheavals of the 1960s.

Amazon plans to release the film before the competition, which starts next month. One night, at Christmas 25, Miami will be visited by selected theatres for the first time in December. For Prime Video subscribers, it will open on the 15th. January 2021. Don’t forget to watch the new trailer on Amazon Prime Video YouTube.
