Texas A&M is hoping to keep the streak going as they land another top recruit for the class of 2023. The school finished with a record of 8-4 last season, and quarterback Taylor Rapp was named to the Second-team All-American team. They are hoping to get back to the National Championship game and are thrilled to land the Swedish tight end, Theodor Ohrstrom. Ohrstrom is a 6’3″ tight end who will be a large part of the Aggie offense.

The Texas A&M Aggies football program has landed an impressive commitment from a high profile recruit. The Aggies have received a commitment from Swedish talent Theodor Ohrstrom, a strong 220 pound tight end who will join the A&M program for the 2023 season. The 6’5″, 225 pounder is from Uppsala, Sweden and is a member of the Uppsala County Youth Football Club. He is the son of former Uppsala County and Swedish national soccer player Fredrik Ohrstrom. Texas A&M added its fourth ESPN Junior 300 commitment to its 2023 recruiting class Wednesday with Theodor Ohrstrom, the No. 2-ranked tight end in the class despite him never having played football in the United States.

Ohrstrom, who is 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds and is rated No. 86 by ESPN, attends RIG Football Academy in Stockholm.

Ohrstrom has just been playing football for four years and has failed to appear in a game at RIG Football Academy in the last two seasons. He played with the Tyresö Royal Crowns last season and will play for the Täby Flyers this season.

“Because of the pandemic, we had a shorter season, but I believe we played six or seven games last season,” Ohrstrom remarked. “RIG is unable to compete against other Swedish teams since they only admit the top ten players from throughout Sweden each year, therefore we can only play against teams from other European countries. As a result of the epidemic, we’ve had difficulty fielding teams since I’ve been at RIG Academy.”

In the United States, too, the epidemic has made recruitment a tough task. Recruits were not permitted to visit campuses from March 2020 to June 2021 and may only communicate with college coaches through phone, video chats, and social media to attempt to form connections.

Ohrstrom’s situation was made even more difficult by the fact that he had limited video to show coaches and had not gotten any scholarship offers until June of this year.

Brandon Collier is the founder of PPI Recruits, an international American football placement firm that has assisted European athletes in receiving college football scholarship offers. In June, Collier took Ohrstrom to the United States for the first time to attend college camps and visit schools, but due to travel limitations, Ohrstrom had to take a circuitous route to his ultimate destination in Atlanta.

“I remember being very worried about it in April because I didn’t know whether I was going to be able to go on the tour or not,” Ohrstrom recalled. “I had to go to Costa Rica and quarantine for two weeks at my godmother’s home in order to enter the United States. Because I couldn’t get into the United States immediately, I traveled to Atlanta from there.”

Collier has worked with Ohrstrom and has seen rapid growth. His 40-yard dash time has dropped from 5.0 to 4.65 seconds.

“In June, we held a megacamp in America where he received four or five offers, but the following day I brought him to Alabama to see what Alabama thought,” Collier recalled. “Coach [Nick] Saban watched three routes from him and gave him a scholarship after they never seen any video on him. We went to Ohio State the following day, and Ryan Day watched four or five routes before approaching me and saying he’d seen enough, and things really took off from there.”

Ohrstrom went to Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Texas A&M and Oklahoma among others on that tour and saw his scholarship offer list continue to grow.

After visiting Texas A&M twice, Ohrstrom felt as though he had enough information to make a decision and picked the Aggies as his college destination. It was a process that spanned only 2½ months, but he’s confident he has made the right choice.

“I just felt like the relationship I’ve created with Coach Coley and Coach [Jimbo] Fisher and the staff at Texas A&M … I’m going to be embraced very well by the whole culture that they have there,” Ohrstrom said. “I know moving across the Atlantic Ocean, there’s going to be a lot of new things and I’ll have a support staff around me that fits me very well.”

Texas A&M has landed a big recruiting win in the form of a 2023 commitment from 2018 Swedish tight end Theodor Ohrstrom. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Ohrstrom will play his college football at the Aggies, which would be his third stop in the country, having just committed to Colorado State in late July..
