Upon the return of FBI agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds), two stars from The Walking Dead appear in the CBS episode Silence of the Lambs, among others. A year after the events of the 1991 film, starring Jodie Foster as Starling and Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the new series from creators Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek: Picard) and Jenny Lumet (Star Trek: Discovery) delves into Starling’s personal and previously unseen story. Clarice brings her protagonist back to the field in 1993 in Washington, D.C., where Starling, along with allies Shaan Tripathi (Kal Penn), Thomas Esquivel (Lucca de Oliveira) and Agent Clarke (Nick Sandow), are pursuing serial killers and sex offenders.

They are joined by Michael Kudlitz, a former student of The Walking Dead, as Paul Krendler, ViCAP’s flying team leader, and Jane Atkinson as Senator and former U.S. Attorney Ruth Martin.

Kudlitz played the military man Abraham Ford in seasons 4 through 7 of The Walking Dead and then returned to the zombie drama as director after the death of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), his favorite. Atkinson appeared in season 8 as Georgie, the mysterious benefactor of the mountain colony led by Maggie Ree (Lauren Cohan).

Marnie Carpenter (Criminal Minds) plays Ruth’s daughter Katherine Martin, who is kidnapped by serial killer Buffalo Bill and rescued by Clarice in The Silence of the Lambs.

According to Kurtzman, Clarice is not pursuing the escaped cannibal Hannibal – whose name may not be mentioned for legal reasons – nor is she a police officer.

I’ll tell you what we didn’t want [series]. We didn’t want it to be Clarice Starling: The lawsuit, Kurtzman told the Hollywood Reporter. We just weren’t planning on doing this show….. And MGM, who was kind enough to give us the rights to Clarice, was not interested in the show.

Rather, Clarice is described as a thriller anchored by a sense of emotional psychology.

The title of the pilot is Silence Is Over, and according to Kurtzman, that’s exactly what the series is generally about. It’s Clarice Starling finally speaking and learning a lot about herself after Buffalo Bill’s injury.

CLARICE, from acclaimed executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, and starring Rebecca Breed (Pretty Little Liars), is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI agent Clarice Starling as she returns to action in 1993, a year after the events of Silent Lambs. Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice’s courage gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. But a complex psychological reappraisal of a difficult childhood allows her to find her voice while working in a man’s world, and to escape the family secrets that have haunted her all her life.

Clarice did it on Thursday the 11th. February, 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on CBS Television Premiere.
