For a few weeks, it looked like every playoff spot in the Eastern Division was safe, but the New York Rangers continued to hide in fifth place. On Tuesday night, they will try to get a little closer to that goal.
It’s the New York Islanders’ opponent on the Blueshirts’ ice Tuesday night. The Long Island Denizens lead the season series 3-2. Meanwhile, the team the Rangers are mostly chasing, the Boston Bruins, is hosting the Buffalo Sabres, an opponent they haven’t lost to in three games this season.
To add to the challenge, the Bruins have a two-game lead over the Rangers heading into Tuesday’s game. But we’ve seen weird things happen in the NHL, so with any luck the Rangers might be the last surprising playoff team.
With the regular season coming to a close, it’s time to look at the playoffs and the teams that are in the running for the lottery for the 2021 NHL Draft.
