In March, just days after an emerging pandemic precautionarily delayed production of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead for three to four weeks, Gimple told THR Networks that making sure everyone is healthy and safe is a priority for AMC Networks.

Like everyone else, as soon as they give us the green light, we’re ready to roar. Like everyone else, it’s a strange break, Gimple said then, adding that work on the scenarios continues. So many people work on these shows. Between the three shows, we’re talking thousands. We want everyone to be safe and healthy. That’s the deal. We all need to come together to make sure everyone is safe and healthy.

Roar! After a seven-month delay, The Walking Dead recorded six bonus episodes in six weeks in October, following COVID-19’s strict health and safety protocols. The production, documented in the Making the Extended 10th Season Special aired on AMC+, yielded six new episodes, making the 22 episode season of The Walking Dead the first in the series’ ten-year history.

As for The Walking Dead, first announced in November 2018, Rick Grimes actor Andrew Lincoln says the film, based on a script by Gimple and Robert Kirkman, will shoot from spring to summer and could be released in theaters in 2022.
