Jensen Ackles reveals his soldier boy costume in [The Boys], the new series from FOX.
The actor and former Dawson’s Creek star Jensen Ackles has revealed the costume he wore as a soldier-boy in The Boys, which is the feature film adaptation of the comic book series of the same name. The story follows a group of teenage superheroes who form a secret society called “The Boys”, and, according to Ackles, the costume was very “tough”. “It was a tactical combat jacket, in a sort of camouflaged pattern, two big pouches, and a holster,” he said. “I wore it the first day of shooting in a river, and when it gets wet, it was kind of like a wetsuit. You couldn’t really sit down. It was very heavy.”
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s new flick The Boys has just hit the web: a dark, twisted take on superheroes that stars a bevy of hot young actors (Jack Quaid, Karl Urban, Chace Crawford, and more). One of the most notable is Ackles, famous for his role as Dean Winchester in Supernatural, which is the show built around Ackles’ character. In recent weeks, Ackles has made several posts about his upcoming debut in Amazon’s popular superhero series. The young soldier, a parody of Captain America, looks more like a soldier on the front lines, fighting alongside American soldiers, and less like the colorful version of the character from the comics. Ackles’ beard is no longer as voluminous as in recent photos from the shoot, suggesting that the soldier has been retired for a while. Does this mean he will retire in season 3 to join Seven in fighting crime? Either way, Homelander (Anthony Starr) is not happy to meet the young soldier. Showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that Ackles’ character is far from the awkward, submissive incarnation of the original comic book. As Vaught’s first superhero, who Kripke says is basically John Wayne in the superhero world, the young soldier might even pose the biggest threat to the equally patriotic Homelander. It also reminds Supernatural fans not to expect Ackles to be the good guy. I think those expecting Jensen to show up and be a good guy will be disappointed. I’ll say! Kripke told Variety. Ackles’ entry into the series is generating a lot of excitement, so the third season could further increase the Guys’ popularity. A release date for the third season of Guys has not yet been set, but it should appear on Amazon Prime later this year. In the meantime, fans can watch the two original seasons at any time on the platform. A spin-off series based on the X-Men is also in development.
